Your questions

Alright, let's see...

To be truthful, when It comes to diffs like ae/e & oe/e, idk if I should use the ligatures æ & œ.

Technically, this is no problem. thcrap hacks Unicode support into the games anyway, and the fonts we are going to use all cover a decent range of Latin special characters.

To be truthful, I have no idea how 'en-uk' is constructed lol, but I do bet it's redirected from 'en'? (lql). (...)

The full 'en-gb' translation is constructed only by the patcher through the patch stacking feature: You would download both English and British English patches and put the British English patch on top of the normal English one.

It confuses me a little cos all the redirected translations appear here, but dunt appear here (but the templates do lol).

MediaWiki only has automatic redirections for system messages called via the {{int:}} magic word. (These redirections are actually quite wasteful as far as resources are concerned, each wiki page has to be cached separately for every interface language of every user who visits a page.)

These redirections don't work with the page translation feature used for the dialogues, which internally uses a completely different way of building the final text content. I added fallback support to the translation interface as a simple means of convenience, because this doesn't mess with the original pages. Merging en into en-gb on the pages themselves would require even more modifications of the Translate extension, duplicate the content and negate patch stacking, so I decided against it.

  • Manly, I'm waiting for 'en' to be 100% translated so I can continue wi picking out spelling diffs for 'en-uk'.

That's Nazeo's department ^_^

  • Mostly, PC-98 & Seihou to be translated in English & such as it's well known that they need yet to translated onto the games them sens. I know Nameless is gonna do PC-98 some time soon, but wi Seihou, IDK. But, it's not up to me to choose, int it? :-P

Having asked around about people's preferences a bit, there are in fact quite a number of people who have requested translation patches for Seihou, myself included. I really only support PC-98 at this point because there is another incentive of doing these patches going on right now. If the guy picked Seihou, we would have supported that too.

And yes, your opinion really does matter, as does the opinion of everyone else. I'm still thinking about the best way of finding out exactly how many people would support and, most importantly, work on patches for 13.5 / PC-98 / Seihou... (Nazeo made some bad experiences with MediaWiki voting extensions).

The most important thing right now is to get the patch server up and running, anyway. No matter what we're going to focus on eventually, this will be necessary for everything.

  • Uwabami Breakers & Magus in Mystic Geometries also to be translated.

Uwabami Breakers will be done alongside Mountain of Faith. Magus in Mystic Geometries falls under our fan game policy though: Only if someone else does the hacking work.

  • If possible, the language code 'en' to change to 'en-us', so people from all over knows that it's 'American English' (like there's Chanadian English & British English). If not, then @ least the main page of this wiki indicates that the English used on this wiki is 'en-us' & that UK spellings are used under 'en-uk' as it does wi the flag :-)

This would break compatibility with pretty much all MediaWiki software and extensions. en-us is not even separately defined as such in the MediaWiki source code, so I guess that en is explicitly defined as American English. I've put a note on the English portal page explaining our policy. That's really all I can do in this matter.

  • All fangames by Twilight Frontier to be worked on.

Fan game policy... Really, that should be the job of gensokyo.org, not us.

  • I speak Yorkshire English & it would be nice to see translations in Tyke (Like there's Pirate English LQL)

Defined en-tyke now. Have fun!

--NamelessLegacy (talk) 15:44, 3 January 2013 (CET)

Ay up there Nameless, thankyou for answering! These really did bug on how the wiki is constructed, but I understand now :-) I'll just point out some things:

  • lol that was something very minor with æ & œ I just wanted to note (hence the :-P emoticon): using those for UK spellings are increasingly rare & now obsolete, but still notable here & there like on the title Encyclopædia Britannica. 'ae' & 'oe' are OK anyway lol :-)
  • I can wait anyways for 'en' to have more implements (as I said, college stuff LQL).
  • I simply can't wait to see PC-98 to be translated! I'm also glad that you lot want to work on Seihou games :)
  • Again, also glad to see UB getting some involvement (even if it doesn't need alot of translation). MIMG, well, only cos a PC-98 char gets a modern theme :P But I can see why you're not bother with that un.
  • Keeping it as 'en' is really fine, honest. I didn't expect it to change to 'en-us' anyways, but @ least people know to use US on 'en', that's brill. :)
  • Don't really expect me to do some en-tyke for now (again, college lol (yeah, it's a big deal)). This can give me something to do though for my own lulz lol :-) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 16:42, 3 January 2013 (CET)

th14 title version update

Hey, could you quickly update File:lang_en-th14-title-title_ver_tr.png to say "ver 0.01b" instead? --NamelessLegacy (talk) 15:21, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Updated! Sorry for the delay, I've been away from my laptop for a couple of days on holiday. :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 12:55, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

My Apology

Hi.

Sorry, I broke the layout of the th14 endings and fixed it right away, but it seems it was when you were translating them. The affected endings were ReimuB bad ending and both of Marisa's bad endings. Since you are only editing the differences with respect to american english, Marisa B ending have extra lines that shouldn't be there, but I can't delete them. I'll contact NamelessLegacy to try to fix it, but I wanted to apologize for this mess.

Greetings, and sorry. --Ghildrean

Oh, I didn't even notice if there were a problem with the layout. No need to be sorry; mistakes happen, right? :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 21:18, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

French translations

Don't know where you are getting those from, but -NightLunya- both stated over at Touhou-Online and told me personally that they do not want to translate music titles.

... Or, wait, just go ahead. Honestly, I'm happy about any reason that further convinces people to abandon this terrible wiki and move their translations to a dedicated patch server, and unsolicited translation edits in random languages is just what I was hoping for. ☺ --NamelessLegacy (talk) 01:45, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

I thought that I'll simply fill up some missing areas where there are already-existing translations. I like to do different tasks rather than stick to just one task for a very long time. Whether people did want this I don't know, but I thought that something's better than nothing. If you're happy that I'm doing these random translations, than I'll continue to do so. :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 23:21, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Communication

Hello TonyUK! I'd like to ask something, though I'd like to have all communication in private. What is the best way to get in contact?--Tosiaki (talk) 00:09, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Oh 'ey up :-)
If you want to, you could send me an e-mail to 'tonyuk64@hotmail.com'. I never go on the IRC and other social chat places, because nowadays I feel that it's just the best way to be (I guess). I'm also busy with college and such. Anyway, I seldom check this e-mail I have, but I'll check it more often to see if you've sent me a message. Cheers :-) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 19:29, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

TH15 Ending Images

High Tony. Great work on the ending images. However, unfortunately it seems that it is showing up in the game like this. I guess you have to upload the entire images for these. Thanks for the time. --DTM (talk) 19:04, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Oh... That really is unfortunate... I never actually looked through to see if it still worked to only have a little block. Did it work before? I'll go through them to see if this is fixable. I apologise for any inconvenience. ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 21:50, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
No need to apologize. I don't think it worked before. And unfortunately, the updated image still doesn't work. I have absolutely no idea why this is though. --DTM (talk) 07:27, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi. I noticed the incomplete translated images in endings too. I see that DTM uploaded the full images to solve this issue. Did you consider reporting this as bug? Or do you know of any specific reason why PNGs with transparent layer won't work in endings, even though they work elsewhere? Also, I think there might be typo in translation of e01b.png. Shouldn't it be rustling? Thanks. Pivco (talk) 14:01, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi there, now that DTM has uploaded the images without transparency, they ought to appear in full in-game now. I would guess the reason it didn't work before with transparency is because it in't set to overlap the original images from the game, but instead replace them to show the English versions, so I wouldn't suspect it to be a bug per se. Also, thanks for spotting that typo :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 18:55, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Cheers for fixing it! Pivco (talk) 20:16, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Kind request to update TH15 Images

Hi Tony. I have noticed some TH15 images having incorrect text. They both have Photoshop project available, but unfortunately I don't have Photoshop. Do you think you could update those, if it isn't too much work?

  • help/helpmenu.png - incorrect names in brackets for second and third menu (should be Reimu & Sanae for second menu and Marisa & Reisen for third menu)
  • title/title_ver_tr.png - since thpatch officially supports only v0.01b of trial version, I tihnk it would be good to update the version string accordingly (currently wrong version is displayed in menu when running web trial using thpatch)

Thanks. Pivco (talk) 13:35, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Hopefully, I've fixed these issues. I've never spotted that Sanae and Reisen were in the wrong list... Thanks for spotting these :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 15:59, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
Great, thanks! -- Pivco (talk) 19:31, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi once again. I have updated translation of one menu item in Th15's pause.png. When player wants to return to title, line 本当にいいですか is displayed. This is same wording as in other Touhou games and means 'Are you sure?' to double confirm from player before committing the action. Apart from that the menu is already bilingual in original, including ZUN's take on the translation. Can you please update the image if you agree with the change? Pivco (talk) 12:34, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Ayup. Sorry for this very late reply, I'm very busy with study. I've changed the image to the new translation. I wouldn't know if it's an accurate translation; the previous one (translated by me) was a very rough translation. ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 17:38, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

The plan, man

You have my full support on this project and I like how it's progressing. After all I still have tons of images left to do on the German side. But first we need to have a solid image foundation in English, from which the other languages can build on. So here's my plan: Transcription > Translation > PSD.

  • Transcription: This is my focus right now, filling out all of the blanks. Whatever kanji I can't read, I'll leave with '?'-marks.
  • Translation: Once transcription is done, this will be my next step. The majority can be copied over from THWiki, but like mentioned, it should be accurate and capture the spirit of Touhou.
  • PSD: Until translation is complete, perhaps we can create tentative templates in advance. Just so all the text boxes are in place. They don't have to look good yet and can be prettyfied anytime. I already have a couple of PSDs on the German pages for th10-13, but as far as Goldenhog's original English images are concerned, I believe he made them in Paint.NET.

Still lots of work to do, but we're getting there. Speaking of, do you happen to know a few more helping hands who could participate?
--Splashman (blub) (talk) 23:02, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment :). Firstly, I'm not sure who I could ask as I tend to work alone on a lot of cases. Secondly, I also wish to support you because you're helping me a lot. :)
My plan was to do transcription, translation then uploading per game rather than do one area each for all games as you're doing, but I can work both ways as I'll probably do some th09 transcription later on :) I like the idea of creating PSD templates in advance, but my problem is when I start a Photoshop file, I cannot stop until it's fully completed, prettified and that it fits fine in the game as I'm always spending time looking for appropriate fonts and formatting it accurately. My real focus at the moment however is finishing th08 translations and uploading some more images, but I am keen on getting started with transcribing th09. ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 23:47, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Alright, that works too. I'll try to get the bulk transctiptions ready first, while you concentrate on the individual games (and cleaning up the mess I leave you :P ). Just leave "please translate!"-markers again when you need any help.--Splashman (blub) (talk) 17:30, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Transcription status

I think we're at 80% transcription for all games now. Here's a quick overview:

  • th09: nearly done
    • Player abilities
  • th095: half done
    • mission titles
    • help pages needed!
  • th10: ready for checkup
  • th11: ready for checkup
  • th12: ready for checkup
  • th125: half empty
    • mission titles
    • help pages needed!
  • th128: ready for checkup
    • help pages needed!
  • th13: ready for checkup
    • help pages needed!
  • th14: ready for checkup
  • th145: ready for checkup

--Splashman (blub) (talk) 16:27, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Ah, thankyou for doing a lot of this :) I will (eventually) have a check through on ones you say you've done as my next task. (btw, you're free to edit my Checkthrough section on my user page if you wish). ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 00:06, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Additions to the Fairy article in the Touhou Wiki

Hey Tony, I was thinking about wanting to do some additions to the "Fairy" article on the Touhou Wiki, so I was wondering if you could do that for me. I know I'm not banned over there or anything, but I just have a distaste for touching it myself in any way as of now.--Tosiaki (talk) 00:16, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

I made a pastebin. Feel free to make any changes as you see fit[1]. Tosiaki (talk) 01:50, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

And also this little bit for the final paragraph of the "Occurrence (birth)" section: "However, with the introduction of lampads with Clownpiece, there are now also a species of fairies that can be said to be born from other beings, and ZUN also confirmed the idea of lampads in the Strange Creators of Outer World interview."--Tosiaki (talk) 02:09, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Tosiaki! Sorry for this very late reply, I've only just noticed your comment as I'm writing this. I'll do that, but only eventually because I'm doing a lot of studying. Also, you can contact me on Gitter if you don't like using wiki talk pages :) ― Tony (Talk/Con.) 12:55, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Transcription checkup

Hey man. I know you're probably busy with school and stuff, I was just wondering when you can get some time to check the latest transcriptions and mark the pages for translation. Once they're ready, I can finish translating the last batch.
Just don't let me rush you, focus on your priorities.--Splashman (blub) (talk) 16:09, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
